Shuipu School Competition

Public Building Renovation
Guangdong, China
Competition, 2025

A garden is a journey - a path that permeates the indoor and the outdoors, the above and below, the past and the present.

The project is located at the former Shuipu Elementary School in Lütian Town, Conghua District, Guangzhou, 1.7km from the Shixiangyan prehistoric cave site, serving as the gateway to the ancient ruins. The surrounding context includes Shixiang Village, Shuipu Village, a brewery, and the village committee. However, the site is fragmented by 1.2–2.3m elevation differences, disconnecting it from the village and main road. The design adopts "Wandering Through Time" as its concept, transforming the abandoned campus into a hybrid site museum and community park. Drawing from the cave's spatial experience—a winding ascent and vertically connected chambers—the design creates a "Meander — Cross — Emerge" narrative trilogy. An elevated "Time Corridor" traverses the site, bridging elevation gaps and weaving an exhibition with a landscape promenade.
