Embark on a revolutionary exploration of the multifaceted relationship between plastics and design, and join us in taking a pioneering stance against climate change


Plastic Up! is an exhibition that showcases the use of plastics in contemporary art and design, aiming to raise awareness of the urgent issue of climate change and inspire a new generation of environmentally-conscious designers. Held at the Kong Lab in OCT-LOFT, Shenzhen, it invites artists and designers from various disciplines to share their perspectives on the meaning of plastics, covering the impact of plastics on society and the environment. Through the lenses of Body, Technology, and Culture, the exhibition presents a diverse range of ideas and opinions. Plastic Up! encourages visitors to reflect on their relationship with plastics and take action towards a more sustainable future.

Plastic Up! exhibition is a cutting-edge event that presents a fresh perspective on contemporary design and art. The show features a series of custom-designed mylar inflatables that serve as an interactive element for visitors. Each inflatable has a unique graphic printed on it, emphasizing the inherent plasticity of the material. The phrase "Plastic Up" is displayed on the inflatables and is also homophonic with the Chinese word for "Accelerate," which reflects the urgency of addressing the global plastic crisis. The curatorial team hopes to spread awareness through this playful approach.

In addition to the inflatables, the exhibition showcases an inclusive timeline that documents the history of plastics since their invention in the 1850s. This timeline captures the significant moments in the material's development, both positive and negative, over the past 150 years. Each period reflects the cultural and societal influences of the time, and the plastic material itself has become a tool for critique and commentary. The exhibition reveals that while plastic is often considered ordinary, its impact and cultural implications are undeniable.

An exhibition that playfully exists in both physical and online spaces.


Hashtag draws inspiration from the metadata tagging system popular on social media platforms, which cross-references and categorizes information. The exhibition, which manifested both in a physical and online space, treated hashtags as more than mere labels, using them to bridge the gap between the digital and real worlds. This approach encouraged visitors, artists, and museums to question their preconceived identities and roles. Hashtag won the 2017 Emerging Curators Project of Power Station of Art, China's first public modern art museum, and was hosted at the museum's stunningly refurbished west bank location in Shanghai.

The exhibition's gallery walls are intentionally reconfigurable, with the ability to be stored inside a data cabinet to represent the collecting and archiving of information, or scattered around to symbolize the transmission and exchange of data, mirroring the internet's process in an analog way. The resulting layout is the collective output of many contributors, including artists, curators, visitors, critics, volunteers, builders, and art handlers. A miniature model of the entire gallery is also on display to help viewers understand the exhibition's underlying mechanism and encourage interaction among a larger group.

To encourage engagement and discussion, a cloud-based social platform is provided for visitors to share their thoughts on the exhibition and artworks via their smartphones. Each artwork is associated with a QR code that directs to a database where user-generated comments are collected. A printer is also available for visitors to print out their comments as a keepsake.

Our picture-perfect frame captures the essence of the client's creativity and inspires social media buzz


Crafts Zone Studio, a creative art studio located in Brookline, Massachusetts, has commissioned us to design a picture frame for their events. The client recently participated in Northeastern University's new student orientation, showcasing their crafts and introducing their business. Our task was to design a picture frame that would serve as a prop for attendees taking photos, while also promoting Crafts Zone Studio's brand. To achieve this, we designed an oversized picture frame made with foamcore, featuring densely packed line-work images of popular projects from the studio. The graphic design of the frame was inspired by the Pop Art movement, making it an eye-catching addition to any photo. Our goal was to create a frame that not only functioned as a prop for photos but also served as an internet hashtag, allowing the client to further promote their business online.

	Transforming a narrow doorway into a bright and special threshold
	The Threshold Doorway is a design project that was commissioned by a private client who recently acquired a new condo in Longwood, Massachusetts. The client expressed their desire to enhance the existing space with subtle interventions. During our exploration of the space, we identified the doorway leading from the dining room to the bedrooms as an intriguing element. Despite its narrow width, the doorway has built-in cabinets along one side wall. In order to highlight this unique feature, we decided to paint the entirety of the doorway with Benjamin Moore Sunray #343, a "sunkissed" hue that exudes a bold and cheerful energy, as defined by the official Benjamin Moore color palette. The resulting effect of this design decision is a special threshold that illuminates the connection between the spaces and imbues a sense of lightness to the entire room.

Transforming Dysfunction: An Exhibition of Art from Recycled Prototypes.


The exhibition 'The Leftovers' repurposes the redundancy of objects from the designer's everyday practice, revealing the unseen side of design. As a metaphor for our daily lives, which are filled with unused objects, the title encourages a lifestyle of Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. While the term "leftovers" typically refers to excess food, here it refers to anything remaining after the rest has been used or consumed, emphasizing the value of giving new life to what might otherwise be discarded.
The exhibition was hosted by mür mür, an art and exhibition initiative founded by Shanghai-based practicing architect Murong (Samoon) Xia.

Discover a set of CNC furniture with a sustainable and playful design


In 2018, Power Station of Art celebrated the 5th anniversary of the Emerging Curators Project with a special exhibition. As part of our design involvement, we created a set of CNC furniture consisting of two desks and sixteen chairs. Our choice of using plywood sheets with mortise and tenon joints allowed for easy fabrication with a CNC machine while providing a sustainable solution for the client. The final furniture pieces were produced by opendesk (︎︎︎)
, a company specializing in CNC-manufactured furniture, which ensured high-quality and precise execution of the designs.

	A full scale 3D printing installation designed for kids
	

TUTU Mountain is a full scale 3D printing installation designed as an indoor playground equipment for kids. The installation is inspired by a combination of natural elements: glacier, dune, cave, etc. We abstract and integrate these elements into a continuous terrain with slopes, slides, bumps that are designed specifically for kids. The installation was manufactured with advanced 3D printing technology using PLA. The project was designed and manufactured by Archi-Solution Workshop when Many Projects served as a project manager there. TUTU Mountain was presented at China International Cultural Industry Fair (ICIF) in Shenzhen in 2019.

	A streetlight design for City of
Los Angeles that helps saving energy and promoting cultural identity
	

Clip-Clip is a design for a new Los Angeles standard streetlight. We design the streetlight not only as a solution with a fixed form, but also as a playful process that will anticipate, adapt and absorb the technological changes and cultural occurrences that are yet to come. The cultural identity of LA has been thriving due to a constant influx of heterogeneous elements. Clip-Clip reflects such an idea – It refers to the at-ease installation process of adding, attaching and updating new elements to the light pole without jeopardizing its formal continuity. The light pole has its root in industrial steel extrusion. Its rounded profile and vibrant color palettes bring a liveness to the cityscape and echoes the rich legacy of Los Angeles’ aesthetics. 
Clip-Clip was awarded Honorable Mentions in the “L.A. Lights the Way” International Design Competition among 110 professional entries from around the globe.
