A K-12 school that uses integrated public space to activize the neighborhood in a post-industrial city in New Jersey
Let’s Walk is a K-12 school project located in Trenton, a post-industrial city in New Jersey where urban renewal is taking place. It is an educational infrastructure for kids, yet an urban public space for a broader audience. The project uses a piloti concept to elevate the school from the ground level allowing traffic underneath and view between city blocks.
The educational program is organized along the hallway which continues uninterruptedly in plan. The hallway then becomes the middle sandwich that both organizes the classroom above and below, at the same time functions as an interior playground and artery for the users. The major programs such as library and administrative center are then interwoven by such major arteries.
